CSR-in-Action is truly an organisation of firsts.

We pioneered the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) trainings on sustainability reporting and stakeholder engagement in Nigeria in 2011 as part of a consortium with Environmental and Sustainability Solutions (ESS), South Africa, and have held multiple training sessions since. Our training impact has influenced the growth of GRI certified sustainability reporting across all major economic sectors in Nigeria

CSR-in-Action is one of the first sub-Saharan organisations to be awarded the GRI Certified Trainer status. We now offer GRI training services as CSR-in-Action – not as part of a consortium. We are also GRI Organisational Stakeholders.

We are the first Sub-Saharan partners of AccountAbility to be given license to provide AA1000AS. We have assured processes for Lafarge Africa Plc (Lafarge Africa), Access Bank Plc (Access Bank) and BATN Foundation.

We have written GRI reports for many clients, most recently Etisalat Nigeria, Lafarge Africa, The Nigerian Stock Exchange and Total Nigeria’s 2015 Sustainability Reports.

In February 2015, CSR-in-Action was officially appointed the secretariat for the premier business coalition for sustainable development, the Business Coalition for Sustainable Development of Nigeria (BCSDN), a local network of the renowned World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

On 5th May 2015, CSR-in-Action was nominated, along with 9 other organisations, into the Steering Committee of the Local Network of the UNGC in Nigeria

In 2013, we partnered with the UNGC Local Network/Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) to produce a highly-anticipated document on Corporate Integrity Initiatives detailing ethical policies and procedures from member organisations of the United Global Compact (UNGC), titled: A Report on Anti-Corruption and Good Governance Efforts in Nigeria.

We have trained well over 100 senior professionals in national and multinational enterprises on specialised CSR courses, including but not limited to Stakeholder Engagement and Sustainability Reporting.

Case Study: AA1000 Assurance for Access Bank’s 2014 and 2015 Sustainability Reports

The benefits of having a local assurance provider has brought about unprecedented benefits to Access Bank Plc. Access Bank is undoubtedly the financial sector leader in the practice of sustainable banking principles. The bank was the first to write a sustainability report in Nigeria using a recognised Framework, the GRI sustainability reporting framework, in 2009. Since then, Access has consistently developed innovative products and services in its quest to achieving sustainability.

In the past, Access Bank, had reported on a wide number of sustainability initiatives which resulted in bulky reports. The 2014 and 2015 sustainability reports, using the GRI G4 framework, attempted to solve this challenge by reporting only on what mattered most to the bank, thereby, significantly reducing report content. The growing economic downturn necessitated the need to work closer to home and the partnership between CSR-in-Action Consulting and Access Bank was born.

In a bid to retain the integrity of disclosures made in the reports, we developed a unique approach to providing assurance by observing key events throughout the course of the reporting years. Our local expertise provided us with an edge to provide the bank cutting-edge insights and recommendations.
